Circus, Clay, and a Chapel Full of Music

A Fresh Redlands weekend lineup: circus tradition, a ceramics festival, live symphony, local markets, and a downtown gallery stop.

From the Groves

Why This Matters

FROM THE Publisher,

Hey Redlands, I am back from my East Coast trip to Boston and New London, CT.

As much as I love the East Coast, nothing like coming back to Redlands.

If you've been waiting for one of those weekends where you can bring the kids, support local artists, hear something beautiful, and still make it to the market before lunch, this is that weekend.

This week's lineup feels especially Redlands: a hometown circus at the YMCA, a hands-on clay festival at The Asistencia, a Saturday night symphony program at Memorial Chapel, and the usual market rhythm that keeps the community stitched together.

Let's get into what's happening around town.

🎪 COMMUNITY TRADITION

The Great Y Circus Is Back for Its 84th Season

One of Redlands' most enduring family traditions is in the ring again this weekend at the YMCA. If you want one lead story that feels local, multigenerational, and joyful, this is it. The Great Y Circus has been running for 84 seasons, teaching local kids acrobatics, aerials, and performance, and this weekend is your chance to see the result.

Performances run Friday at 7 PM, Saturday at 5 PM, and Sunday at 3 PM at the YMCA, 500 E. Citrus Ave. Take the kids. Take the grandkids. It's a hometown classic.

🎭 ARTS & CULTURE

The Symphony Is Ready to Find Its Power

If your weekend needs one polished night out, the Redlands Symphony performs "Finding Power" on Saturday, May 2 at 7:30 PM in Memorial Chapel. The program features Beethoven's Coriolan Overture, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor with soloist Luchi Jiang, and Schubert's Symphony No. 5.

This is the first full season under the direction of incoming music director Deanna Tham, and the 75th season has been a statement. Saturday night is the exclamation point.

This looks like one of the best fresh picks of the weekend. Art in Clay brings a full ceramics festival to the historic Asistencia. Expect a pottery market, hands-on workshops, ceramic demonstrations, food trucks, coffee, ice cream, and a beer garden. It's the perfect reason to visit one of the oldest standing structures in Redlands.

SAT 5/2

Farmers Market at the Grove School

Grove School, Redlands, CA

8 AM – 12 PM  |  Free

A child-friendly certified market with student-grown produce, local vendors, breakfast options, and farm animals nearby. If you want a more relaxed, community-driven alternative to the big downtown market, the Grove School is exactly what you're looking for.

SAT 5/2

Redlands Symphony: Finding Power

Memorial Chapel, University of Redlands  |  101 Chapel St, Redlands, CA 92374

7:30 PM  |  Tickets required

The 75th season closes with Beethoven's Coriolan Overture, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor with soloist Luchi Jiang, and Schubert's Symphony No. 5. Under the baton of incoming music director Deanna Tham, this is the kind of concert that reminds you why live orchestral music cannot be replicated by a streaming service.
